Elements of Freshness

A Cinematic Bath & Body Product Film | Cinematography Final Project | 3rd Semester

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Elements of Freshness is a cinematic product advertising film created as the final project for my third-semester Cinematography course at university. Featuring Fiama soaps and shower gels in different colours and fragrances, the film explores how visual storytelling can communicate freshness, sensory appeal, and the character of bath and body products.
The film uses the products’ colours, packaging, foam, bubbles, and surface details to create a visually engaging presentation. Rather than focusing on a single product, it explores the variety within the range, using differences in colour and appearance to build visual interest and establish a cohesive commercial style.

CREATIVE CONCEPT

Transform everyday care into a sensory visual experience.
The creative approach centres on the sensory qualities associated with bathing and personal care. Through the interplay of products, bubbles, foam, and colour, the film creates a visual atmosphere that evokes freshness and cleanliness.
The variety of Fiama products provides opportunities to experiment with contrasting colours, textures, and compositions while maintaining a consistent visual identity throughout the film.

Cinematography & Visual Direction

The visual language combines product-focused framing, carefully controlled composition, and close-up details. Bubbles and foam introduce movement and texture, while the products’ distinct colours help establish visual contrast and direct attention toward individual items.
The cinematography focuses on presenting the products clearly while using their surroundings to create depth, visual balance, and a sense of freshness.

Visual Keywords: Fresh · Colourful · Sensory · Clean

Lighting Design

The lighting approach focuses on revealing the products’ shapes, colours, and surface details while controlling reflections on the packaging and surrounding surfaces.
Highlights, shadows, and background brightness contribute to product separation and visual depth. The lighting is designed to complement the range’s colourful appearance and support a clean, refreshing atmosphere.

Colour & Mood

Colour is a central part of the film’s visual language. The different product colours and packaging details provide the basis for a varied yet cohesive palette.
Colour correction and grading were used to maintain consistency across the footage and shape the final visual mood, balancing product colour, background tones, and highlights.

My Role & Contribution

I independently handled the cinematography, lighting, colour correction, colour grading, and editing. I developed and executed the visual approach, making decisions about framing, light, exposure, colour, and the final rhythm of the film.

Production Approach

The film was shot at home rather than in a professional photography studio. Working with limited resources, I adapted the available space and equipment to create a controlled product-shooting environment.
The project provided an opportunity to experiment with reflections, foam, bubbles, product placement, and lighting while exploring how a considered commercial look can be achieved without a fully equipped studio.
